NCDB Reporting Tools for Cancer Programs

Turn Cancer Data Into Action

The National Cancer Database (NCDB) provides Commission on Cancer (CoC)-accredited programs with reporting tools to monitor patient outcomes, assess quality, benchmark performance, improve data accuracy, and support accreditation.

Using data submitted through the Rapid Cancer Reporting System (RCRS), NCDB reports provide insight into patient demographics, staging, treatment, outcomes, and quality measure performance—helping cancer programs understand their performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

Monitor Quality and Patient Care

Use NCDB reporting tools to monitor performance against evidence-based quality measures and identify opportunities to improve care.

Quality Measures Report

Monitor compliance with CoC evidence-based quality measures, review performance rates and benchmark status, and identify cases that may require additional review or quality improvement.

Alerts Report

Identify cases approaching or exceeding treatment timelines for selected quality measures, helping your program follow up on treatment, improve timeliness of care, and maintain quality measure compliance.

Benchmark Your Performance

Understand how your program compares with other CoC-accredited programs and identify meaningful variations in care and outcomes.

NCDB Benchmark Reports

Compare patient demographics, stage distribution, tumor characteristics, treatments, and Days-to-Treatment metrics with state, regional, and national benchmarks. Use these insights to evaluate treatment patterns, identify potential disparities, and inform strategic planning and quality improvement.

Comparisons Report

Compare quality measure performance across CoC facilities, states, regions, ACS Divisions, program categories, or all CoC programs, with demographic stratification to help evaluate variation across patient populations.

Strengthen Data Quality and Reporting

Monitor the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of the data your program submits to RCRS.

Completeness Report

Identify registry fields with missing, unknown, or incomplete values and compare results with national five-year averages to improve registry data quality.

Submission Compliance Report

Track monthly case uploads, edit-free submissions, diagnosis-year progress, primary-site counts, and submission timeliness to help ensure accurate and timely reporting.

Case Log Report

Review submitted cases, submission history, edit errors, duplicate cases, and case details to monitor submission status and validate the data submitted to RCRS.

Evaluate Outcomes and Identify Improvement Opportunities

Use NCDB data to assess patient outcomes and support your cancer program’s quality improvement efforts.

Cancer Quality Improvement Program (CQIP)

Use an annual summary of hospital comparisons, survival, RCRS quality measures, operative mortality, and risk-adjusted survival to support Cancer Committee review, benchmark performance, and identify improvement priorities.

NCDB Survival Reports

Evaluate observed survival by cancer site, stage, sex, age, and comorbidity to better understand long-term patient outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.

Support Research and Outcomes Analysis

Participant User Files (PUF)

Access HIPAA-compliant, de-identified patient-level NCDB research data for clinical research, outcomes analysis, and quality improvement projects at CoC-accredited facilities.
