The ACS Senior Fellows Society is a novel program for senior and retired surgeons, allowing continuous career-spanning engagement with ACS activities that help foster bidirectional interactions across generations of surgeons. The inaugural Senior Fellows Society meeting was held at Clinical Congress 2025 in Chicago, with a committee structure to be formalized in the first quarter of 2026.

The History of Surgical Issues Related to Space Flight

Dr. Mark Campbell, a Senior Fellow of the ACS and former NASA flight surgeon, has conducted parabolic flight research examining surgical techniques in weightlessness. Drawing on his firsthand experience and expertise, he will explore the history of surgery and surgical research in human spaceflight and discuss the extraordinary challenges that future surgical care beyond Earth may pose.
Membership in the ACS Senior Fellow Society is composed primarily of senior and retired Fellows of the College but is open to any member who identifies with the mission and is in good standing as defined by the ACS Board of Regents.
